Biomedical
Engineering
The Biomedical
Engineering Department (BMED) is
responsible for preventive and
corrective maintenance of diagnostic and
therapeutic equipment and provides
evaluations of new technology, conducts
device incident investigations and
ensures that equipment is in proper and
safe operating condition.
Scope of Service
The appropriate and
safe operation of clinical (diagnostic
and therapeutic) equipment is paramount
to the proper functioning of any health
care facility. The Biomedical
Engineering Department (BMED) for the
Royal Commission Hospital in Jubail is
responsible for testing, repairing, and
maintaining in proper and safe operating
condition, the hospital’s diagnostic and
therapeutic equipment.
Major functions of
Biomedical Engineering Department are
to:

Equipment &
Supplies Committee
-
Perform incoming
inspection, installation, preventive
and corrective maintenance, and
special request service on clinical
equipment owned, and/or used within
the Hospital in compliance with
regulatory Manufacturers
representative/agencies.

Provide
pre-purchase evaluations of new
technology and equipment.
-
Assist clinical
departments with service contract
analysis, follow up, negotiations
and management.

Provide
coordination of clinical equipment
installations including, planning,
scheduling, oversight and
acceptance.

Research equipment
issues for Hospital professional and
administrative staff.

Participate on
various committees.
-
Conduct device
incident investigations when needed.
Equipment service
records are documented and maintained in
the Biomedical Engineering asset
management database through “FMIS”. To
better serve individual department
functions and requirements, Biomedical
Engineering Department is connected to
all Hospital Departments/Clinics
through the Hospital Ethernet.

The Biomedical
Engineering Department is staffed with
the following job classifications:
Location and Hours
The Biomedical Engineering Department is
located on the first floor opposite to
the Cafeteria.
The Biomedical Engineering Department is
staffed Saturday through Wednesday from
07:30am to 05:30pm and Thursdays from
07:30am to 01:00pm
On-call coverage can be obtained outside
the Working Time 7 days a week.
Facilities Supported
The Biomedical Engineering provides
support to all Clinical Departments of
the Royal Commission Hospital. The list
includes but is not limited to:
OR, RR, ICU, BICU, NICU, RDU,
Pediatrics, Laboratory, EMT, ER, L&D,
OPD, All Hospital Wards, PT, RT, Dental
Clinics, Medical Library.
Meeting Patient Care
Needs
Biomedical Engineering
meets the needs of the patients by
ensuring that Hospital diagnostic and
therapeutic equipment is safe, accurate,
available, affordable, and applicable.
Biomedical Engineering serves as a
resource to Hospital staff by performing
scheduled and unscheduled inspections,
new technology evaluations, pre-purchase
evaluations, incoming inspections and
device incident investigations.
Biomedical Engineering personnel serve

collaborative, and continuous approach
endeavors to deliver optimal service in
